Keith was surveyed as a town in 1884 . It is believed that the town is named after the home town in Scotland of the Governor Of South Australia at the time, Lord Kintore . his home in Aberdeenshire in Scotland was called Keith Hall and he was also known as Earl Of Kintore . Keith was the home of Andy Caldecott , winner of four Australian Safari races ( 2001 - 2004 ) and Motorcycle competitor in the Paris Dakar Rally in 2004 (DNF), 2005 (6th), and 2006 (killed during the ninth stage).
