The line starts from Misasagi Station in Kyoto, and ends at Hama-Otsu Station in neighbouring Otsu City , and travels a distance of 7.5 km. It was built to connect directly between Kyoto town and Otsu town, then the Tokaido Line made a great detour. 66.7 in 1000. The busiest sectionof the line, between Sanjo Station and Misasagi Station was replaced in 1997 by Kyoto Subway Tozai Line . One of the aim of the substitution was to move the track to underground from road track, in order to give lanes to road vehicles. Consequently trains go direct to Tozai Line . TECHNICAL INFOS
TRAIN SERVICE Except trains between Shinomiya Station and Hama-Otsu Station in early morning and late night, all trains go directly from Hama-Otsu Staion to Kyoto Shiyakusho Mae Station of Kyoto Underground Tozai Line. Off peak hours, 4 services an hour, peak hours ?? services an hour.
