Kara Elizabeth DioGuardi (born December 9 , 1970 in New York City , New York ) is a Songwriter , Record Producer and Singer from New York City who has contributed to numerous popular songs since the 1990s. Her father is Joseph J. DioGuardi , a former Congressman from New York.

After completing a Political Science degree at Duke University , DioGuardi worked in the editorial and marketing departments of Billboard Magazine from 1993 while pursuing a singing career. During this period, she collaborated with recording engineer Jon Wolfson to create independent recordings under the name MaD DoLL (1999-2001).

In 2006 , promotion of Platinum Weird , a collaboration between DioGuardi and Dave Stewart , began with a series of "fan" Web sites created by the upcoming album's promoters. DioGuardi provides the voice of Erin Grace, the group's fictional lead singer.
