(born
13 January ,
1982 in
Lahore ) is a
Pakistani Cricketer who has played 21
Test matches and 35
ODIs for
Pakistan . He is a quick-scoring batsman and tidy wicket-keeper, who nevertheless has only achieved three centuries and two fifties in 31 Test
Innings . However, his first century was vital - his 109 from the number eight position at
Mohali , coming in with Pakistan in a lead of 39 against
India in the first Test, ensured that the visitors could draw the match. Recent form against England has made him one of the most important players in the team. Naturally, he is an opening batsman but is willing to go in at any position. As an opener he has scored 2 back to back centuries in ODIs against England. Coming lower in the order in Test matches, he played inning to be remembered. He saved Pakistan from score of 39/6 to a competitive 245 which helped Pakistan win the match and series. Akmal has the talent and since the fading of
Moin Khan , and
Rashid Latif , he will been seen in Pakistan Cricket for a while. Akmal also enjoys support from coach
Bob Woolmer , and captain
Inzamam-ul-Haq .
Kamran Akmal also holds the record for scoring the fastest century in a Test cricket by a wicket-keeper. His batting has mushroomed into a flood of runs of late. Seven international hundreds in the last 4 months, encompassing both Test and ODI cricket.
He is a wonderful and an aggressive ODI player. Ferocious square of the wicket, he is fundementally an offside player, but has the resolve to improve his onside game. He can bat at any position, which is a very useful thing for his team. Another good thing about him, is that, like his captain, Inzamam, he also can bat under pressure very nicely. He has played very important innings in ODIs for his team, and continues to play. He is a very young player and has got a bright future ahead of him. However, the two men, from whom his competition still goes on are
Adam Gilchrist of Australia and
Mahendra Singh Dhoni of India.
Kamran's brother,
Adnan Akmal also plays professional cricket as a wicket-keeper.
