WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

The eight Kaiser stations with one network affilated station predating the independent broadcasters as you know them today...

KEY NOTES

  • 1The station was sold to Oak Communications in 1976 .

  • 2 WFLD Chicago (Channel 32) was also owned by Kaiser Broadcasting Company, but in form of a joint venture with Field Communications . Kaiser had a 77% ownership stake in the station while the remaining 23% went to Field. WFLD was sold outright and became the flagship station for Field, only to be sold in Metromedia in 1982 . Today, WFLD is a Fox Owned And Operated television station.

  • 3Stations sold to Field Communications in 1977 .

  • 4Under the Field ownership, the station left the air in 1983 and return to the air in 1992 under a new license.

  • 5Stations confirmed as some of the first official affiliates of The New CW Television Network when it launches September 2006 .

  • 6Like KBSC, WKBF was also left out of the Kaiser-Field agreement. WKBF agreed to merge with another station in the market, WUAB and WKBF merged signals in 1975 . In return, channel 61 was off the air until 1980 when the station returned to the air as WCLQ. The license was very separate from the actual WKBF licenses.

  • 7KITV was technically Kaiser's first station, which they owned from 1958 to 1964. That allowed Kaiser to form a branch of independent stations.
