In the thirties, he is part of the production company "Film d'Art" with Marcel Vandal and Charles Delac , with whom he is working.
He has created a world of images where dark realism is full of a strange imagination. After the Second World War , he gives a pessimistic representation of the French society, shown as dominated by hypochrisy, narrow clericalism, meanness and women's slyness.
