Jose Rizal University (JRU) is a private, non-sectarian, Filipino collegiate institution of higher learning. It is located at Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City . The college was founded by Don Vicente Fabella as Far Eastern College in 1919 and was renamed '''Jose Rizal College (JRC)''' in 1922 in honor of the Filipino national hero, Jose Rizal . JRC moved to Mandaluyong when the town was under Rizal Province . JRC was granted university status on October 2 , 2000 . Jose Rizal University joined the National Collegiate Athletic Association in 1927 . The varsity team are the Jose Rizal Heavy Bombers . Notable JRU alumni include President Ramon Magsaysay , Philippine Basketball Association Most Valuable Player s Philip Cezar and Vergel Meneses, and comedian (and one-time NCAA champion) Jimmy Santos.
