First starting on the show in 1985 , his first stint lasted until 1988 . He returned to the series in 1990 and continued on until 1995 . He is a cast member on the show today, having returned in 1997 . Holden's "wrong side of the tracks" love affair with rich Lily Walsh ( Martha Byrne ) set the stage for much story in the 1980s and early 1990s . During his time away, Jon starred in the USA Network television movie ''Wounded Heart'', '' Beverly Hills, 90210 '', and ''Almost Perfect''.
