Johnny Barnes is a Bermudian institution. Rain or shine, he can be found waving to passing traffic at the Trimingham Hill roundabout in Hamilton , Bermuda from roughly 4:45 am to 10 am. He is known to say "I love you, I love you," to passing commuters during the morning rush hour into Hamilton. Born John James Adolphus Mills in 1924 , he drove buses for a living, and upon retirement, took up waving to traffic. Barnes who is sometimes called "the friendliest man in Bermuda" legally changed his name in 1997 . There is currently a statue of him adjacent to the roundabout. . He has become something of a tourist attraction himself, having been profiled in most guidebooks to the island.
