He married Sarah Bird Northup and had seven children. His son John Rollin Ridge wrote the pseudo-biography of Joaquin Murieta that inspired the Zorro legend. John Ridge was a part of the Ridge Party, a group that advocated for the removal of the Cherokee Indians to Oklahoma . He was also associated with the signing of the Treaty Of New Echota . Although this was an illegitimate signature, the treaty was the basis of Andrew Jackson 's argument for the removal of the Cherokee Indians. He was assassinated June 22, 1839 after the Trail Of Tears because of his signing the Treaty. |
