D'Agata holds MFAs from both the Iowa Writers' Workshop (Poetry) and the University of Iowa English Department Nonfiction Writing Program. D'Agata is the author of a book of Essays ''"Halls of Fame"'' Press, 2001 , and the editor of ''"The Next American Essay"'' Press, 2003 , a collection that includes essays by Joan Didion and John McPhee .
