Information About

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

The story goes that Hasselbaink got his current football alias of ''Jimmy Floyd'' because his Portuguese teammates couldn't pronounce his real first name. The name seems to have stuck.

Jimmy's first club was , this time with Chelsea , for a club record fee of £15,000,000.

During his second spell in the FA Premier League he scored 23 goals in 35 league appearances in the 2000 / 2001 season, finishing as its top goal scorer. He formed a deadly partnership with Iceland ic target man Eidur Gudjohnsen in his second season at Chelsea, scoring 29 goals in all competitions helping Eiður to a reasonable 23, 52 goals between them! Hasselbaink was 31 now and his last two seasons with the blues wasn't as successful. He scored only 11 goals in 27 games in the 2002 / 2003 season followed by a tally of just 12 goals in 22 league games the following season. At the age of 32 he joined Middlesbrough on a free transfer. In his first season he got 13 goals in 36 league games. Already this season he has struck the winner in 1-0 wins at Grasshoppers in the UEFA Cup and Everton in the Carling Cup . Hasselbaink also captained his side in the recent memorable 4-1 win over Manchester United and scored the second goal for Boro.

He wears Puma boots, and recently starred in a TV advert where he plays a game with some kids in a park with plastic bags over his feet to prevent messing up his new Pumas.

INTERNATIONAL

Hasselbaink made his debut for the Dutch national side at a late age. During his time as an international, Hasselbaink usually drew the shortest straw in a fierce competition for the strikers' positions. First with Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Kluivert , then with Ruud Van Nistelrooij , Roy Makaay , and still Kluivert. The additions of Pierre Van Hooijdonk , Jan Vennegoor Of Hesselink and later Ryan Babel didn't make Hasselbaink's goal of becoming a permanent fixture in the national side any easier.
At some point during 2004 Hasselbaink decided to quit the Dutch national team and no longer made himself available. His biggest achievement as an international is without doubt having played in the 1998 World Cup and having started for the Netherlands in their first game against Belgium .
Hasselbaink has played 29 times for the Netherlands , scoring 8 goals.
