Born into a musical family in Buffalo, New York in 1930, Jim Hall began playing guitar at age 10. At age 16, his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio and Jim enrolled in the Cleveland Institute Of Music . In 1956, he moved to Los Angeles, California and began working with the Chico Hamilton Quintet. He soon became one of the preeminient guitarists in modern jazz and was in demand for concerts, studio dates, moves and television work. In 1965, after an illness, he reduced his travelling schedule and settled in New York City where he still performs in clubs. Beyond some thirty albums as a bandleader, Hall has recorded with Bill Evans , Ron Carter , Paul Desmond , Ella Fitzgerald , Jimmy Giuffre , Coleman Hawkins , Ben Webster , Pat Metheny and Sonny Rollins , among others. He is known for his dark, warm guitar tone, advanced Harmony and mixing of Blues , Bebop , and other modern jazz ideas. EXTERNAL LINKS |
