While in his prime, Brown could have been considered to be in the upper-echelons of NHL defensemen, his swift fall from the peak of his carrer ensured that he would be remembered for few of his on-ice performances. Perhaps best known for scoring 15 points during the 1994 playoffs for the Vancouver Canucks , eventually resulting in their second appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals , many Vancouverites remember Brown more for his off-ice antics than his on-ice efforts. During the 1994-1995 season, Jeff Brown was traded to the Hartford Whalers . Shortly after, a rumor surfaced that explained this was because Brown had been secretly having a sexual liaison with the wife of teammate Kirk McLean . This rumor has persisted over the years, even being called the worst kept secret in Vancouver. However, it has been denied by the participants and may be an Urban Legend . Overall, Brown had a solid career, with some stellar highlights, but in the end was unable to secure much of a reputation in the league other than as an unstable influence to teams that would otherwise have been competitive. Brown who played parts of 18 seasons in the NHL , suited up for 6 different franchises. The Quebec Nordiques , St. Louis Blues , Vancouver Canucks , Hartford Whalers / Carolina Hurricanes , the Toronto Maple Leafs and finally the Washington Capitals . |
