His Eminence Jean-Louis Cardinal Tauran (born 3 April 1943 ) is a Cardinal Deacon and the Archivist and Librarian of the Roman Catholic Church . Born in Bordeaux , France , Tauran studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University , the Catholic Institute in Toulouse and the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in Rome . Ordained a priest in 1969 , he worked in the Archdiocese of Bordeaux before entering the Vatican 's diplomatic service in 1975 . Tauran served within the Nunciature in the Dominican Republic , Haiti , Lebanon , and Syria . Appointed Secretary For Relations With States of the Secretariat Of State by Pope John Paul II in December 1990 , he was named Archbishop of the Titular See of Telepte in January 1991 . In 2003 , John Paul II elevated Tauran to Cardinal and named him Archivist and Librarian of the Holy Roman Church. Tauran was one of the Cardinal Electors who participated in the 2005 Papal Conclave that selected Pope Benedict XVI . EXTERNAL LINKS |
