James Daly (born October 23 , 1918 ; died July 3 , 1978 ) was an American Actor born in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin . He is best known in film for his portrayal of Dr. Honorious in the original '' Planet Of The Apes '', and on television as the lead in the drama '' Medical Center ''. From 1947 to 1966, he also guest starred in many television series, among them '''', '' Mission Impossible '', The Twilight Zone (" A Stop At Willoughby "), '' Gunsmoke '', '' The Virginian '', and '' Twelve O'Clock High ''. James Daly's last screen feature was as Mr. Boyce in the mini-series ''''. He died in Nyack, New York , aged 59, shortly after the appearance, before the mini-series was released. The Daly family had an interest in acting for four generations. James's father Percy appeared in theatrical productions in Central Wisconsin. His two children Tim and Tyne are well known actors as is his granddaughter Kathryne Dora Brown; daughter of Georg Stanford Brown of The Rookies television show fame and Tyne Daly .
