James Boyce Black is a Democratic member of the North Carolina General Assembly representing the state's one hundredth House district, including constituents in Mecklenburg county. An optometrist from Matthews, North Carolina , Black is currently (2005-2006 session) serving in his tenth term in the state House, where he holds the position of Speaker. In 2005 and 2006, Black was marred by a corruption scandal involving his unpaid political director, Meredith Norris , who was also employed as a lobbyist for Scientific Games , a Georgia-based lottery vendor competing for the state's recently-passed education Lottery . In late 2005, the Federal Bureau Of Investigation subpoenaed 2,100 pages of documents from his office, including records that purport to show Norris's involvement in drafting lottery legislation and allged misuse of a state laptop computer. |
