When she was a teenager, she started working with the Dundee -based publishing company DC Thomson on a new girls magazine '' Jackie '', which was named after her. Over 20 million copies of Wilson's books have been sold in the UK alone. In a poll conducted by the '', ''Vicky Angel'', and '' The Story Of Tracy Beaker ''. In 2004 she replaced Catherine Cookson as the most borrowed author in Britain's libraries, a position she retained the following year. {Link without Title} ''Girls in Love'' and ''The Story of Tracy Beaker'' have been adapted as TV serials.
