Jack Davenport (born March 1 1973 ) is a British Actor , born in Suffolk . He is married to actress Michelle Gomez . EARLY LIFE Davenport, son of Nigel Davenport and his second wife Maria Aitken , lived in Ibiza for the first seven years of his life. His parents divorced when he was seven, at which point he was sent to The Dragon School , a boarding school, as his parents did not want him to become involved in the divorce proceedings. He then went on to attend Cheltenham College . ACTING CAREER Davenport had never thought he would go into acting. However, his acting career sprung into action when he took a gap year after attending Cheltenham College . He was on a summer drama course and a director from Clwyd Theatr Cymru (The Welsh National Theatre) saw him, liked what he did and asked his to come and work for him. So, at 18 years of age he ended up in Wales, doing bit parts in Hamlet; where he became friends with Rhys Ifans ('' Notting Hill ''). The year after, he attended UEA (University of East Anglia), where he concentrated on Film Studies and English Literature . He tried out acting once more at UEA , but was not, at this point, seriously interested in it. In fact, Davenport had considered becoming a member of a film crew, as apposed to acting in front of the camera. It was not until his mother advised him - after his graduation from UEA - to write a letter to John Cleese , requesting to work on the set of his upcoming film, '' Fierce Creatures '', so that Davenport could some real experience behind the camera. John Cleese , instead, sent Davenport's letter to the casting department, and he was cast as a Student Zookeeper; a small part with very few lines. This was his very first taste of working in front of the camera, and it was at this point that he decided he liked it. After the production of '' Fierce Creatures '' was over, Davenport found an agent, who gained him an audition for the role of Miles Stewart in the outstanding BBC television drama series '' This Life ''. It was in this part that Davenport first rose to fame. Since then Davenport has played roles in many successful films and TV dramas, including '''', the sequels to which are exoected in 2006 and 2007 respectively. During his career Davenport has also turned his talents to voice acting, having narrated the audio versions of John Buchan's '' The Thirty-Nine Steps '' and recorded parts in Anthony Burgess ’ '' A Clockwork Orange ''. Most notably, however, he is the deep voice behind the famous "For everything else, there's MasterCard" television advert. FILMOGRAPHY
