GySgt. Jack Coughlin (Ret.) of the United States Marine Corps is the author of '' Shooter ''. He was a Sniper who saw action in numerous conflicts including those in Somalia and Iraq . In ''Shooter'', he details his experiences in the 2003 Invasion Of Iraq and expresses his wish to see snipers utilized as mobile units on the battlefield. Jack started off his idea for a Mobile Sniper Strike Team (MSST) lying prone on top of a humvee. He would usually be on his friend Lieutenant Colonel Casey Kuhlman's humvee, because Casey was his best friend and could be trusted. The driver of the humvee, Panda, was a fast, wreckless, yet amazingly talented driver. After shooting from atop the vehicle, Jack supported his growing idea of the MSST by riding from building to building in the humvee, making quick stops inside to shoot from the top floors. This tactic had proved extremely efficient in a US Marines urban laser tag practice game, and it continued to cut through OPFOR (Opposing Forces) wherever they went. Jack wanted to see the days of snipers staying in one spot for the whole fight disappear, and wanted to see the MSST idea put into wide use. |
