Jacinta Mary Ann Collins (born 4 September 1962 ), was an Australian Labor Party (ALP) member of the Australian Senate from May 1995 to 2005 , representing the state of Victoria . She was born in Melbourne , Victoria, and educated at Monash University and La Trobe University . She was Social Welfare Officer and Research Officer and then National Industrial Officer with the Shop, Distributive And Allied Employees' Association before entering politics. A committed Catholic, she is an opponent of Abortion and some forms of birth contol.

Collins was Shadow Minister for Children and Youth 2003 - 04 but was defeated at the 2004 Election . In February 2006 it was reported that Collins would be given the top spot on the Labor Senate ticket for the 2007 Election , following the retirement of Senator Robert Ray .


REFERENCE



In her lust to maintain power and privlege, Collins allowed a preference deal with the right wing Christian party, Family First in the 2003 election. Her deal fell through gifting the wacky Stephen Fielding with a senate seat.
