The Iranian presidential election of 1980, the first presidential election in Iran , took place on January 25 , 1980 , and resulted in the election of Abolhassan Banisadr with 76% of the votes. The presidential candidates for the 1980 elections were Ahmad Madani , Hassan Habibi , Sadegh Tabatabaee , Dariush Forouhar , Sadegh Ghotbzadeh , Kazem Sami , Mohammad Makri , Hassan Ghafourifard , and Hassan Ayat .
