Information About

Iowa State Highway 27

The total length of Iowa 27 is 282 miles (454 kilometers). At its southern terminus in Lee County on the Des Moines River and the Iowa- Missouri border, the expressway continues as Missouri State Highway 27 .

Motorists who wished to travel the Avenue of the Saints through Iowa prior to the existence of Iowa 27 followed a lengthy list of directions (here, northbound): old Iowa 394 , and Interstate 35 ("I-35").

Iowa 27 runs concurrent with I-35 for 28 miles until reaching its northern terminus in Worth County at the Iowa- Minnesota border. From there, the Avenue of the Saints continues on I-35 to St. Paul.

As of late 2005, the Iowa 27 expressway is nine miles (14 kilometers) and less than a year from completion. The only remaining two-lane stretch of Iowa State Highway 27 is found between state highways {Link without Title} in extreme southeastern Iowa, and is scheduled to be upgraded to four lanes in 2006.
