The International Hockey Federation ('''Fédération Internationale de Hockey sur Gazon''', or '''FIH''') is the global body governing the sport of Field Hockey , which is known simply as '''hockey''' in most countries. The organisation was based in Brussels , but moved to Lausanne in 2005 . The FIH manage the World Hockey Cup , which takes place every four years, midway between Olympic years. The FIH was founded on January 7 , 1924 in Paris , in response to hockey's omission from the programme of the 1924 Paris Olympic Games . The original six founding members represented both men's and women's hockey in their respective countries: Austria, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Hungary, Spain and Switzerland. Today, the FIH consists of five continental associations and 112 member associations. EXTERNAL LINKS |
