International Badminton Federation




The International Badminton Federation ('''IBF''') is the international Governing Body for the Sport of Badminton . Founded in 1934 with just nine member nations ( Canada , Denmark , England , France , Ireland , Netherlands , New Zealand , Scotland , and Wales ), the IBF would soon grow to have many members and achieve international recognition.

The IBF works in cooperation with regional governing bodies, Asian Badminton Confederation , European Badminton Union , Oceania Badminton Confederation , Pan American Badminton Confederation and Africa Badminton Federation , to promote and develop the sport of badminton around the world.


IBF MEMBERS

There are currently 150 IBF member nations. Geographically, there are 40 from Asia , 45 from Europe , 29 each from the Americas and Africa , and 7 from Oceania .


TOURNAMENTS

The IBF regularly organizes six major international badminton events:

Two events are no longer held regularly:
  • World Cup was suspended since 1997 . However, the IBF revived the event in 2005 (with China as host) but only as an invitational tournament. China swept gold in all 5 categories.

  • World Grand Prix has been on hiatus since 2000 .



AWARDS

The IBF bestows special honors unto players, umpires, sponsors and other individuals for their achievement in badminton or for their contributions to badminton.
