Information About

Ingleside, New South Wales

The area is mostly semi-rural properties and bushland. In the last few years, Sydney's growth has begun to affect Ingleside, with Mona Vale road being widened, and Pittwater Council greatly increasing the housing developments in the suburb.

In the late 19th Century , a German noble called Baron Karl Von Bieren secured a government loan to build a Gunpowder factory up in the hills of Ingleside. The venture went bust before any Gunpowder was actually produced and von Bieren took the money and fled to Melbourne where he caught a ship to America . Unfortunately for von Bieren, the ship had to stop in Sydney for a refuel, and a police officer from Narrabeen boarded the ship and arrested him. The powderworks factory fell into disrepair and was never used. Powderworks Road, a major road in the area, takes its name from von Bieren's factory.
