Independent Film Channel

The Independent Film Channel ('''IFC'''), launched in September 1994 , is a premium Digital Cable channel dedicated to presenting Independent Film s, unedited and commercial-free. It also features Documentaries , Award Show s, and other programs related to independent film. It is owned by Rainbow Media . IFC's promotional slogan is "IFC - tv, uncut."

It features more obscure foreign and independent films than its competitor, Sundance Channel . IFC also has theme months, in which movies that share a genre get heavy rotation. June 2005 was "Pulp Indie" month, each October is "Indie Screams" month (independent horror films), etc.

Both IFC's General Manager and channel staffers maintain separate blogs at the channel's website that keep their fans involved and interactive with IFC's management by giving programming ideas and comments about the channel.

On June 17 , 2005 IFC opened IFC Center , a movie theater for independent film fans in New York.
