HISTORY Interbrew's origins can be traced to the founding of the Den Horen brewery in 1366. In 1717 the name of the brewery was changed to Artois when Sebastian Artois, the brewery's Master Brewer, purchased the brewery. Artois became a large and successful company, and in 1987 merged with Breweries Piedboeuf to form Interbrew, one of the world's largest brewers. The combined company grew rapidly by acquisition during the 90's. Ambev was a Brazilian beer company formed by a merger in 1999 between the Brahma and Antarctica breweries. It had a dominant position in South America and the Caribbean. In 2004 the two companies merged to form InBev. When InBev announced in 2005 and confirmed in 2006 that it would move the Hoegaarden brewery to Wallonia , a major storm of protest broke out in Flanders . Many companies and people started a boycott, including the Flemish Parliament . CORPORATE GOVERNANCE Carlos Brito is the current Chief Executive Officer. In its home market of Belgium, however, it is marketed, priced and sold as a regular lager. It is brewed in Belgium and the United Kingdom , as well as other countries including New Zealand. Stella's advertising slogan in the United Kingdom is "Reassuringly Expensive". The UK television advertising campaigns have included references to the film '' Jean De Florette '', and have used movie directors such as Jonathan Glazer , to portray a sophisticated European culture somewhat belied by the popular conception of the beer. In Belgium, Stella is promoted as ''Mijn huis is waar mijn Stella staat'' (''My home is where my Stella is''). EXTERNAL LINKS
