He then resigned from the Country Liberal Party and formed the NT Nationals Party. He was elected as an NT Nationals member by a margin of 19 votes at the 1987 election in his previous seat of Barkly . His victory was annulled by the Court of Disputed Returns after a successful challenge from losing independent candidate Maggie Hickey . On 5 September, 1987, he won a by-election, again defeating Hickey, who was now representing the Australian Labor Party (ALP). He stood unsuccessfully in the seat of Goyder in the 1990 Territory Election. |
