ALL MUSIC REVIEW Quite simply, "I Wanna Be Free" is the Boyce/ Hart songwriting team attempting to write their version of "Yesterday" for the Monkees project. A positively beautiful and wistful statement of teenage coming of age, its melody is one of the finest to grace an early Monkees record. Sung by Davy Jones , the song went a long way in gaining his preteen pop audience, especially with his angst-filled live renditions that drove the girls to near-hysteria. |
