Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, or '''IRIB''', ( Persian سازمان صدا و سيمای جمهوری اسلامی ايران, Sāzmān-e Sedā va Sima-ye Jomhūrī-ye Eslāmī-ye Īrān) is the Iran ian organization in control of Radio and Television .


IRIB'S PLACE IN IRAN'S CIVIL CODE

According to Article 175 of the Iranian Constitution , private broadcasting is forbidden. Prior to the Islamic Revolution , IRIB was known as the National Iranian Radio and Television, or '''NIRT'''.

The constitution further specifies that the director of the organization is chosen directly by the Supreme Leader for 5 years, and two representatives from The Judiciary, The President, and The Parliament, each, are to oversee the organization. The current director is Ezzatollah Zarghami . The previous directors included Ali Larijani and Mohammad Hashemi .


PROGRAMMING CONTENT

It is no secret that IRIB has been a mouthpiece of the conservative spectra of Iran's government since the 1979 revolution. The constitution of The Islamic Republic of Iran declares its mandate by clearly stipulating:

::''"The freedom of expression and publication of ideas in the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting must be in line with Islamic laws and national interests."''


FACTS ABOUT IRIB

  • IRIB has branches in 17 countries, including the United States , and broadcasts in more than 25 languages.

  • IRIB broadcasts four national channels, one international news channel, three satellite channels for international viewers, and one provincial channel per province. The IRIB provides eight major radio stations as well.

  • IRIB also has a movie production company, called Sima Film .
