Huyton is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 with the spelling Hitune During the Second World War it was the site of a large Internment Camp which held people under '' Defence Regulation 18B ''. It has one college, four secondary schools, seventeen primary schools. Huyton recently had a new Asda Walmart complex built in the main village centre, one of the largest in Europe.
