Huntington County is a County located in the U.S. State of Indiana . As of 2000 , the population is 38,075. The County Seat is Huntington 6 . HISTORY Huntington County was formed in 1832. It was named for Samuel Huntington , who signed the Declaration Of Independence , and became President Of The Continental Congress under the Articles Of Confederation . DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census 2 of 2000, there were 38,075 people, 14,242 households, and 10,282 families residing in the county. The Population Density was 38/km&2 (100/mi&2). There were 15,269 housing units at an average density of 15/km&2 (40/mi&2). The racial makeup of the county was 98.15% White , 0.18% Black or African American , 0.41% Native American , 0.31% Asian , 0.01% Pacific Islander , 0.26% from Other Races , and 0.67% from two or more races. 0.95% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 14,242 households out of which 34.40% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.40% were Married Couples living together, 9.10% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.80% were non-families. 23.60% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.70% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.04. In the county the population was spread out with 26.10% under the age of 18, 9.90% from 18 to 24, 28.10% from 25 to 44, 21.80% from 45 to 64, and 14.10% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 94.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.70 males. The median income for a household in the county was $41,620, and the median income for a family was $49,031. Males had a median income of $34,894 versus $21,693 for females. The Per Capita Income for the county was $19,480. 5.50% of the population and 3.70% of families were below the Poverty Line . 6.20% of those under the age of 18 and 5.70% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
