Humbul




Websites are reviewed by a distributed network of subject experts based within universities around the United Kingdom. A central team based at Oxford University provides support for the expert network and maintains the technical infrastructure to deliver the service.

Humbul covers over thirty subject areas within the humanities, including:


Humbul has also developed collections of website records relating to online Peer-review ed e-journals for the humanities and also a collection of websites relating to research projects funded by the AHRC.


FUNCTIONALITY AVAILABLE


The primary method of accessing Humbul's database of resource descriptions is over the World Wide Web using a standard Web browser. The online database contains over 10,000 reviews of academic websites and can be accessed through search and browse interfaces. Browsing by subject, for example, is possible as is restricting searches to a particular subject or type of resource.

Humbul also offers a personalisation service (for which the user is required to register an account), including email alerting (based on saved searches or saved subject areas) and the My Humbul Include function which enables the re-presentation of catalogue records within a personal website (using javascript technology). For each subject covered there is also a freely available RSS newsfeed which contains news of the latest websites reviewed by Humbul. It is also possible to search Humbul via Z39.50 -conformant clients, such as the Endnote personal biblographic database application.

All of Humbul's services are available free of charge to the end-user.
