Hudson, Ohio




Hudson is a city located in Summit County, Ohio , United States . As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 22,439. It is an affluent Exurban community and is considered part of Akron's Metropolitan Area according to the U.S. Census Bureau . The city is named after its founder, David Hudson.

Hudson once formed a part of the underground railroad and was home to abolitionist John Brown.


GEOGRAPHY

Hudson is located at 41°14'36" North, 81°26'20" West (41.243356, -81.438982).

According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 67.0 Km&2 (25.9 Mi&2 ). 66.3 km&2 (25.6 mi&2) of it is land and 0.7 km&2 (0.3 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 1.04% water.

Originally part of the Connecicut "Western Reserve," Hudson has the character of a New England town, with a village green overlooked by white clapboard churches, a couple substantial stone mansions (one of which a bank) and the most extraordinary of the town's landmarks, its clocktower.

Hudson was the original home of what is now Case Western Reserve college and remains home to the Western Reserve Academy, a co-ed prep school of good reputation.


EDUCATION

The Hudson City School District is one of the top-rated districts in the state and country. The largest school in the district is Hudson High School . There are also many private schools in the area, most notably Western Reserve Academy , as well as several smaller schools.


DEMOGRAPHICS

As of the Census of 2000, there were 22,439 people, 7,357 households, and 6,349 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 338.6/km&2 (876.9/mi&2). There were 7,636 housing units at an average density of 115.2/km&2 (298.4/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 94.65% White , 1.48% African American , 0.09% Native American , 2.82% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.20% from Other Races , and 0.75% from two or more races. 0.82% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 7,357 households out of which 49.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 79.7% were Married Couples living together, 5.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 13.7% were non-families. 12.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.01 and the average family size was 3.30.

In the city, the population was spread out with 33.5% under the age of 18, 4.1% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 27.7% from 45 to 64, and 9.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 98.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.0 males.

The community is quite affluent, with a median income for a household in the city of $99,156, and a median income for a family of $107,612. Males had a median income of $87,169 versus $38,226 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $40,915. 1.7% of the population and 1.3% of families were below the Poverty Line . 2.2% of those under the age of 18 and 2.0% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
