THE PROGRAM

A total of 78 episodes, each 24 minutes long, have been aired over six seasons. Episodes were filmed mainly in central Canada ( Ontario and Québec ) and the northeastern United States . The show uses different narrators for different languages and countries. In Canada, the show was originally narrated in English by former Canadian Olympian Mark Tewksbury during the first season, but seasons two through four have been narrated by Lynn Herzeg and season five was narrated by June Wallack. The narrator of the French version, Comment C'est Fait , is former Canadian Olympian Jean-Luc Brassard . In the UK, the series is narrated by by British voiceover artist Tony Hirst and has become a smash hit with twenty-somethings and students for its interesting content. In the USA, the series is now narrated by Brooks Moore. The U.S. version was originally broadcast with the Canadian English narration, and used subtitles for metric to English conversions.

The programme was a co-production of the French-language Ztélé (formerly Canal Z) and Discovery Channel Canada . Financial assistance for the programme was also provided by the Government of Québec through the Ministère de la Recherche, de la Science et de la Technologie (now the Ministère du Développement économique, de l'Innovation et de l'Exportation), as well as the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) provincial tax credit.
