The
Television Drama ''Hotel'' aired on
ABC from
1983 to
1988 . The series was set in the elegant St. Gregory's Hotel in
San Francisco and episodes were partly self-contained, dealing with the dramas of the guests and partly concerned with ongoing storylines amongst the hotel staff.
The core cast was
James Brolin ,
Connie Sellecca ,
Nathan Cook , and
Shari Belafonte . In
1987 , Sellecca was nominated for a
Golden Globe Award for her performance; Brolin had been nominated in
1984 and
1985 .
''Hotel'' was produced by
Aaron Spelling Productions . Some scenes were filmed in
San Francisco, California , USA. The pilot starred
Bette Davis as the hotel owner Laura Trent, but Davis was too ill to continue when a series was commissioned. In an inspired piece of casting, Davis' place as matriarch at the hotel was taken by
Anne Baxter as Victoria Cabot. Baxter had previously played Davis' nemesis in the classic
1950 movie
All About Eve .
This series was based on the
Novel of the same name by
Arthur Hailey , which was also adapted into a
1967 Movie .
