One important feature of the hypthesized physics behind the tales is that certain rare occurences create the proper conditions for a Wormhole , by which properly equipped ships can travel virtually instantaneously between wormhole junctions, vastly speeding interstellar travel along such routes. Akin to important choke point naval stations like various ''fortified Port Cities '' in the Age Of Sail in the Caribean , around the horns of Africa and South America , or places in the Far East like India , Ceylon , The East Indies or places near strategic straits like many in today's Indonesia , possession of a wormhole enables the owner star nation a important revenue source from tariffs and increased trading opportunities relative to star nations not so fortunate. The analog to our world's extant , another wormhole is discovered and explored in Manticore's well blessed set of ''Wormhole Junctions'', and this wormhole leading to a Star Cluster named the Talbott Cluster figures to be prominent in successive works as it is central to the sub-series opener Shadow Of Saganami and in some of the short stories since it's discovery. Since these ''wormhole'' links all represent ''Age of Sail like'' trade routes, this gives the , The Republic Of Haven , The Andermani Empire , and the large chaotic collection of mostly individual star-polities known generally by the deliberate Misnomer The Silesian Confederacy , where pirates roam, and seemingly everyone wants to do business, or conquer, or annex the mess. There are some other interesting historical parallels to our own ''Age of Sail'' incorporated in this rich milieu set in the main, after Honor's October 1, 3961 birthdate. Technological advances in the honorverse have come slow and far between for most of the 500 years existance since the star kingdom of Manticore, and as the series opens, the stagnation in technology lead to a similar stagnation in both Strategy] And Military Tactics . The grav-wave propulsion systems require ''gun ports'' and captain's strive to position their ships to maximize their Fire Power by using a Broadside akin to the Unturreted days dominated by the Warship s and Battleship s of the Age Of Sail , and like Horatio Hornblower, Honor Stephany Harrington is a superb ship handler bordering on genius. Although most of the stories and books feature Honor in a starring role, more recent additions to the series include short stories and novels in which only passing references if any are made to her. In some cases this is because they are set before her birth; otherwise the featured characters have usually made appearances (if ever so brief) in Honor-related stories. THE BOOKS All the books up to and including ''At All Costs'' are available on free-to-copy CDs produced by Baen Books . Weber has stated that there will be at least five more books in each of the ''Honor Harrington'', ''Wages of Sin'', and ''Saganami Island'' series. The newest book, ''At All Costs'', is now available in hardcover, and the hardback includes a CD containing all the previously released Honorverse titles in electronic format.
