Hong Yun-seong (洪 潤星 ''Hon Yunsun'') is a Fictional character designed for the '''''Soul'' Series''' of Fighting Games . Yun-seong made his first appearance in '' Soul Calibur II '' and returns in '' Soul Calibur III ''. Prior to '' Soul Calibur III '', his name was written as '''Hong Yunsung'''. BIOGRAPHY Yun-seong was well-known in the famous Seong White Storm that, according to legend, possessed the ability to reflect the innermost thoughts of those who wielded the blade. That night, Yun-seong studied the image of himself in the dao and reflected, leading him to the self-realizations that it was foolish to challenge Hwang for personal reasons as Korea was in a state of peril and that if he could obtain the "Sword of Salvation" that Hwang had failed to find, Yun-seong would finally be recognized and his challenge would be accepted. He immediately packed his belongings, took the dao, and left the dojo in pursuit of the "Sword of Salvation." During his journey, Yun-seong heard rumors that the "Sword of Salvation" was an evil sword. He arrived in a village inhabited by children who survived a war between neighboring nations over a fragment of Soul Edge that resulted in the destruction of a fortress city where they once lived. He announced that he was searching for Soul Edge, and was greeted happily by the children, except one-- Talim , who told him about the dangers of the sword. The children's leader, a sick boy, was startled when the sword was mentioned. Thinking that he knew something, Yun-seong waited for an opportunity to question the boy. But the opportunity never came, for the boy would always avoid him. Talim tried to treat the boy, but to no avail. Seeing her disheartened, Yun-seong would talk to Talim every chance he could get, and she started to lighten up towards him. As the boy's condition deteriorated, Talim announced she would try a drastic treatment, but the boy refused. Yun-seong stopped him from arguing with Talim and spoke to him alone. The boy told Yun-seong that he was the son of the lord of the fortress city, who went insane when he obtained a fragment of Soul Edge. He performed terrible human experiments, using his own son as a test subject, resulting in the dark energy within the boy's body. The neighboring cities attacked and the lord was killed, while the boy rescued the children who were going to be used as test subjects. After hearing his story, Yun-seong handed the boy his dao, White Storm, telling him of it's ability to show what lies inside the heart of whoever holds it. The boy looked into the blade and thanked Yun-seong. After the ritual, Talim left the village, but Yun-seong went after her, still having a few unanswered questions. Before he left, the boy told Yun-seong that the wielder of Soul Edge, Nightmare , was in the lands of the west. Yun-seong set out to find out the truth about Soul Edge. WEAPONS -- White Storm A sword passed down as a family treasure alongside the korean Seong family, famous for their martial arts. Its said that its blade reflects the deeper parts of the heart of its wielder. The sword was handed by Seong Mi-na, and Yun-seong took it in his quest to find the "Sword of Salvation". STAGES -- Imperial Capitol Ayutthaya (SC2) The Ayutthaya dynasty witnessed height of prosperity of the Indonesian Peninsula. This imperial villa is one of the many used by the dynasty to entertain honored guests. The beautiful white walls of the villa and the abundant nature that can be seen across the river from the garden make visitors feel as though time is standing still. Talim came to this place soon after the start of her journey. Yun-seong passed through this place on his way to India only a few days before she arrived. Ayutthaya is the place Talim first came to learn that there were others searching for the evil sword. -- Egyptian Temple (SC3) Rumors of the reappearance of the Azure Knight have cast a dark shadow across Europe. This time, the damage he has wrought is even greater than before, reaching across the sea all the way to Egypt. For the purpose of repairing numerous temples that have been damaged by unknown hands, people and materials have been gathered from across the land, but among these workers, rumors persist that the destruction was caused by sword. In his pursuit of the Azure Knight, Yun-seong hears these rumors and sneaks into a temple under repair. He needs to see the damage before the repairs are complete. Will he find that it was in fact caused by the Azure Knight, as he suspects? CHARACTER ANALYSIS In ''Soul Calibur II'', Yun-seong is a medium-range fighter. In terms of options, his Crane stance is one of the more versatile stances in the game. However, he is still universally considered bottom- Tier and is considered by the ''Soul Calibur'' community as the worst character in the game. He has many weaknesses, including slow basic pokes and unsafe lows. Additionally, he lacks the tools to fight at either close or long range and does not have an effective spacing game to keep opponents at medium range. There have been efforts to raise Yun-seong's potential through laborious theory and testing, but these attempts have not yet elevated his status. While his moveset is largely based on that of Hwang Seong-gyeong, the key difference that separates the two as fighters is that Yun-seong has more moderately effective kicks, whereas Hwang had more safe lows. In ''Soul Calibur III'', his style is changed totally. Many of his previously weaknesses has been replaced with moves that offers more variation in tactics: There are more regular weapon-attacks which have been combined with kicks. -his kick has become more effective and plays a bigger role in his style, together with fast execution-speed which makes him quite good for punishing. Secondly, his stance ''Crane'' has changed, to include more moves with more possibilities, although getting in to that particular stance is not easy and requires a surprised opponent who will give you time to execute your attacks, or else a simple vertical poke(6B for most characters) will break it easily. Thirdly: the ''Swoop'', derived from the ''Landwalk '', has been added as a natural followup of ''Landwalk'' by not executing any attacks during the ''Landwalk''. But sadly, there are also some changes for the bad: the following attacks does not exist anymore: ''Blade Song''(AAB), ''Talon Destroyer''(AAKK), ''Raging Panther''(6+KKAA) and its variations, ''Circular Assault'' variations(66K...), ''Warrior Stance''(1KAB), ''Warrior Step'' (1KKB). Also, the usual launcher 3B has been replaced with a move similar to Xianghua's 3B+K, which means that besides ''Heaven's Path''(A+B), all lauchers have to be executed during the 8-way run. Still, even with these removals, Yun-seong has become a much more solid character as many consider him mid- Tier . TRIVIA
