Hofors is a Swedish Municipality in Gästrikland , in east central Sweden .

The municipality covers an area of 411.0 Km&2 with a total population of 10624 (5321 are male, and 5303 female), with a Population Density of 26 inhabitants per km&2.

GEOGRAPHY

Nearest cities are Gävle , 50 kilometers away, and Falun , 30 kilometers away.


HISTORY

The town of Hofors expanded around an iron industry in the 17th Century , which eventually developed into one of Sweden's foremost Ironworks , and a Subsidiary of the SKF concern.

The municipality was formed in 1925, with its current borders from the 1970s. The coat of arms stem from 1968, and is derived from a map from 1539, where the town Hofors was surrounded by iron mines. ( {Link without Title} ).
