Hikari (光市; -shi) is a City located in Yamaguchi Prefecture , Japan . It was founded April 1 , 1943 . As of 2003 , the city has an estimated Population of 46,496 and the Density of 776.88 persons per Km&2 . The total area is 59.85 km&2. The name Hikari itself means "brilliance" or "light" in Japanese . It is connected by railroad with a train station and Route 188 . Hikari is bounded with Yanai , Kudamatsu , Shunan , Tabuse in the Kumage District and Shuto in the Kuga District . Yamato became part of Hikari on October 4 , 2004 .
