The Henry Hudson Parkway is a New York City Parkway that stretches from West 72nd Street in Manhattan to the Bronx - Westchester County boundary, where it meets the Saw Mill River Parkway . The portion south of West 72nd Street is known as the West Side Highway . It crosses the Harlem River from Manhattan to the Bronx over the Henry Hudson Bridge .The parkway is signed NY-9A for almost its entire length, the exception being the section north of US 9 / Broadway although it is also unsigned New York State Reference Route 907V. It is named after Henry Hudson . The Henry Hudson Parkway is a candidate for designation as a New York State Scenic Byway, the first in New York City. At the request of the Henry Hudson Parkway Task Force, in 2005 the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council approved funding to develop a comprehensive corridor management plan, a requirement for its designation. On May 12 , 2005 a retaining wall collapsed onto the northbound lanes of the parkway, just north of the George Washington Bridge , shutting it down in the middle of rush hour.
