Born in Salt Lake City, Utah , he was ordained an apostle and member of the Quorum April 10 , 1947 . He served as Second Counselor to President David O. McKay from June 12 , 1959 to October 12 , 1961 , when he was called as First Counselor. He served as First Counselor until his death. Henry D. Moyle spearheaded much of the building programs of the church in the early 1960s. He was of the opinion that the Church Office Building , the headquarters of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints should have been twice its current size. He was also convinced that by building larger chapels, the church would attract more converts. As the The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints neared bankruptcy, President David O. McKay was forced to remove Elder Moyle from all administrative tasks. Though he still remained as First Counselor, he no longer had any real administrative power.
