GEOGRAPHY According to the U.S. Census Bureau , the county has a total area of 754 Km&2 (291 Mi&2 ). 749 km&2 (289 mi&2) of it is land and 5 km&2 (2 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 0.61% water. Adjacent counties
DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census 2 of 2000, there were 15,060 people, 5,844 households, and 4,330 families residing in the county. The Population Density was 20/km&2 (52/mi&2). There were 6,381 housing units at an average density of 9/km&2 (22/mi&2). The racial makeup of the county was 93.97% White , 3.30% Black or African American , 0.24% Native American , 0.35% Asian , 0.02% Pacific Islander , 1.26% from Other Races , and 0.86% from two or more races. 2.25% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 5,844 households out of which 33.80% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.70% were Married Couples living together, 10.40% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.90% were non-families. 22.00% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.90% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 2.97. In the county the population was spread out with 25.40% under the age of 18, 7.90% from 18 to 24, 29.70% from 25 to 44, 24.70% from 45 to 64, and 12.30% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 99.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.90 males. The median income for a household in the county was $37,263, and the median income for a family was $45,009. Males had a median income of $31,478 versus $21,982 for females.
