Hebron Academy is a private, Co-ed , college preparatory Boarding School located in the small town of Hebron, Maine . Founded in 1804 , Hebron Academy has enjoyed a rich history of educating the leaders of the state of Maine , and the United States such as U.S. President Abraham Lincoln 's first vice-president, Hannibal Hamlin , George Lincoln Rockwell and John Brown Russwurm.

The school currently serves grades 6-12, offering boarding for grades 9-12.

About 200 students attend the school, about half of whom live on campus. The majority of those who board come from the New England region, although there are small numbers from all over the United States. Hebron annually attracts a number of foreign students, either on exchange or for four-year study. Most come from the nations of Canada , South Korea , Japan , Germany , and the region of Latin America .

Hebron has an excellent Ice Hockey program, competing in Division 2 of the prestigious New England Prep School Ice Hockey Association. Other sports compete in both the New England leagues, and the local Maine leagues.

The school is quite isolated from the outside world, on a beautiful 1,500 acre (6.1 km²) campus. The small town adjacent to the school consists of only a fire station and a post office. Shopping, dining, and lodging are located about 20 minutes away. With few distractions from study, many believe the isolation contributes to the school's positive learning atmosphere.

DAILY LIFE

Daily life at Hebron largely consists of academic and athletic pursuits. The school day begins early in the morning when all students and faculty are assembled in the small chapel for the daily meeting. Here announcements are made concerning school business. Classes then begin and last until the afternoon, with a break for lunch at the cafeteria.
In the afternoon every student is required to participate in an afternoon activity. Most activities are competitive athletics, but outdoor education class, art, music, and drama programs are also offered. Following afternoon activities most day students go home, while boarding students have free time until dinner is served, most students spend the time hanging out in the John T. Leyden Student Union(nicknamed the Onion). Following dinner, there is another period of free time, most of the male student-athletes spend it in the Lepage Fitness Center, after which study hall begins. Study hall is a two hour period of required study mandatory for all students living in the dorms. Students must leave their doors open and be at their desk for the two hour period while a faculty member monitors them. Many students feel that the mandatory study program helps them achieve academic success. Hebron Academy is not a disciplinary school, the student environment is quite relaxed and students do not wear uniforms. One of the most important aspects of the daily life as a student at Hebron, is the student-teacher relations where a student can go to any teacher and talk about pretty much anything. One the weekends, when students are engaged in sporting events, certain trips are offerd to local malls, movie theaters, and even special trips to paintball ranges and ski parks. Recently, Headmaster John King has intoducted special days, Maine, Mountain, and Beach Day. On Maine day students go on trips to places across Maine to take in the surrounding area, many students use this day to go to the famous Fryeburg Fair. Mountain Day, the entire school goes to a nearby ski resort and the entire day can be spent on the slopes or nordic skiing or snowshoeing. On beach day, the school goes to State Reid Park for a day of relaxation before the final exams.
