The paper was sold to Robert Southam (later Southam Newspapers ) in 1877 . After the sale of Southam newspapers to Conrad Black in 1998 , Black sold the paper to the Sun Media newspapers in 1998, who subsequently sold it to the Torstar group of newspapers in 1999 .
