GEOGRAPHY

Hallam is located at 40°32'12" North, 96°47'12" West (40.536725, -96.786761).

According to the United States Census Bureau , the village has a total area of 0.4 Km&2 (0.2 Mi&2 ). 0.4 km&2 (0.2 mi&2) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


DEMOGRAPHICS

As of the Census of 2000, there were 276 people, 110 households, and 86 families residing in the village. The Population Density was 666.0/km&2 (1,680.2/mi&2). There were 118 housing units at an average density of 284.8/km&2 (718.4/mi&2). The racial makeup of the village was 92.39% White , 0.00% African American , 2.54% Native American , 4.35% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.00% from Other Races , and 0.72% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 110 households out of which 32.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.3% were Married Couples living together, 6.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.8% were non-families. 15.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.83.

In the village the population was spread out with 25.0% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 36.6% from 25 to 44, 19.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 95.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.3 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $42,031, and the median income for a family was $45,156. Males had a median income of $32,361 versus $19,531 for females. HISTORY


On May 22 , 2004 , Hallam was struck, along with much of southern Nebraska, by one of a series of Tornado s. As every house in the village was destroyed or severely damaged, governor Mike Johanns declared Hallam a disaster area.
