Haileybury, Ontario




Temiskaming Shores, Ontario is a City in Northern Ontario , Canada .It was created by the Amalgamation of New Liskeard, Haileybury, and the Township of Dymond. It is located near the Quebec border on the shores of Lake Timiskaming . With a Population of slightly over 10,000, Temiskaming Shores was granted city status in 2004 . Haileybury is the seat of Timiskaming District .


HISTORY OF HAILEYBURY


Haileybury is the southern-most Region , District , or Borough of Temiskaming Shores and has a Population of approximately 4,500.




  • 1910 - 7 year-old Leslie McFarlane , first author of the Hardy Boys series of books, moves to Haileybury. He lived there until 1920, and again from 1927-1936. He wrote 10 Hardy Boys books while living in Haileybury.





HISTORY OF NEW LISKEARD


New Liskeard is the central Region / District / Borough of Temiskaming Shores and has a Population of approximately 4,800.


  • 1903 - New Liskeard incorporated as a Town with John Armstrong as its first Mayor




HISTORY OF DYMOND


Dymond Township is the northern-most Region , District , or Borough of Temiskaming Shores. It contains most of the large Commercial enterprises (such as Walmart and a line of Fast Food Restaurants ) and the City 's single Shopping Mall .

GOVERNMENT


The current mayor of Temiskaming Shores is Jamie Hawken who previously was the mayor of New Liskeard, and there are 6 city councillors. The city is represented at the provincial level by David Ramsay ( Liberal , Timiskaming-Cochrane) and at the federal level by Anthony Rota ( Liberal , Nipissing-Timiskaming.)

  • Cobalt, Ontario (population 1,200) - With Haileybury and New Liskeard it was considered as one of the members of the unnofficial conglomerate known as the Tri-Towns . Cobalt was originally proposed to be included in the amalgamated city, however they rejected the plan.
