Greg Lake (born November 10 , 1947 in Dorset , England ) is a British Bassist , guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and producer. Lake was a founding member of the original incarnation of the British group King Crimson , and the eponymously-named Supergroup Emerson, Lake And Palmer . He also toured briefly with the group Asia in 1983 as well as having two solo albums and a tour in the early '80s. The albums were ''Greg Lake'' ( 1981 ) and ''Manoeuvres'' ( 1983 ) both of which featured ex Thin Lizzy and guitar ace Gary Moore . He wrote one of ELP's biggest hits, "Lucky Man", when he was still in grade school. Lake became well known for his Christmas hit, " I Believe In Father Christmas " ('' Works Volume II '') in 1975 , which incorporated the "Troika" from Sergei Prokofiev 's '' Lieutenant Kije '' in its backing track. Other hits include "C'est la vie" ('' Works Volume I ''), "Still... You Turn Me On" ('' Brain Salad Surgery '') and "From the Beginning" ('' Trilogy ''). Lake is a key player in modern music as King Crimson's debut album, "In the Court of the Crimson King," forever changed the face of music. ELP's huge success in the 1970s also contributed to major changes in music. In 1998, the members of Emerson, Lake and Palmer had a rather acrimonious falling-out and Lake left the band. He has not been especially visible on the music scene since then, though he did tour as a member of Ringo Starr 's band in 2002. In late 2003 he played bass on The Who 's ''Real Good Looking Boy''. Lake has been playing bass for The Who 's 2006 studio album entitled WHO2 . |
