Cattrano played College Lacrosse at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island , where he maintained a 68% save percentage and set the NCAA record for offensive production by a goalie with 3 goals. Cattrano received Goalie of the Year honors, was named Brown's Team MVP, was named to both the All-Ivy and All-New England teams as a Senior and received All-American honors twice.

Cattrano was assigned to the Baltimore Bayhawks in the MLL's inaugural season. In 2003, he was traded by the Bayhawks to the Philadelphia Barrage in exchange for the first overall draft pick. In 2005, he was traded to the Long Island Lizards in exchange for Brian Dougherty. Cattrano received several MLL Award. He received the MLL Goaltender of the Year award three times in four years, was the league MVP in 2002, and has played in every MLL All-Star Game. Cattrano holds the MLL League record for wins.
